Instructions for installing ArchLinux using the installation script ArchFi

It's been a while since my last ArchLinux installation guide article that covered the classic installation method (reading the documentation and typing command by command until you get to a working system). The following is a new one that will describe how to install this popular Linux distribution, using the Archfi installation script, I mentioned earlier. This text will be part of a trilogy that will consist of: Archfi script, Archinstal script and finally their comparison. Somehow, it just happened that a few days ago, a new version of the Archfi script was released after less than a year and a half, so let's see how it all works (and it works :) ).

Parola and MAX72xx external libraries

For the purposes of creating a simple advertisement, i.e. for a project in which an LED matrix will be used to display animated text, I used two additional libraries. I chose them because I think it was the simplest solution for working with the MAX7219 IC and animating the text. To begin with, a little about the libraries themselves, and the project will be described in the following text. The libraries in question are MAX72xx and Parola.

Graduation assignment 4ETR - B6 - LED lighting

The topic of the assignment is the realization of New Year's LED lighting that will have certain light effects (in this case LED flicker) while the user is enabled to control the brightness intensity in the range from 0 to 100% with two push buttons. Here you will find detailed instructions and explanations of the program. I started with the 6th task from the collection, and there will be more similar texts soon. The practice so far has been to make a video clip and explain the task through text on the blog, and now a document will be available for download.

Fedora - minimal installation of KDE Plasma environment

After a while, I will talk about Fedora again, because during the previous distro-hopping , Fedora generally left a positive impression on me. I may have been a little harsh to the Gnome environment, but in any case, this distro received a passing grade. Maybe even a C+! Between versions 34 and 35, I noticed significant improvements in the package manager, ie its speed. This text brings one more thing, and that is the bash script for installing Fedora with KDE Plasma environment and all the basic programs to use.

Fedora 34 + Gnome 40 and why not to use it

During my occasional dystro-hopping, I had the opportunity to use Fedora after a long time with the new Gnome 40 version. Finely tuned operating system, with great support. It is often called the Red Hat test site, which is true. The community presented it with great enthusiasm, so I told myself to give it a go and that's how Fedora found herself on my machine.

30th anniversary of the Linux kernel

The jubilee birthday of the Linux kernel comes and goes (August 25), a miracle that changed the course of development of modern OSes. I use the word "miracle" because that's how it turned out in the end. The project, which the creator Linus Torvalds himself did not believe would come to life, is a global phenomena today. It is located all around us, the simplest example is of course the smartphone with Android. We are talking about 1.6 billion devices at the heart of which is the Linux kernel. The kernel is part of the operating systems that run our desktop computers, mainframes, supercomputers ...

By the way, I use Arch Linux!

It's been a long time since I became a GNU / Linux user, which I'm proud of! I tried it out of curiosity (I hope I don't sound like a drug addict :)), and now I can't imagine everyday life without it. It’s one of those things that gets under your skin and there’s no going back! Officially or when they make me I use the other OS, but the love and affection to Linux is stronger than anything, probably that's why I write about it and always emphasize it. I've used a number of distributions so far, some just a few minutes, while others for years. The distro I use the longest and to whom I like to return after an experiment is ArchLinux, so I can afford to say that famous sentence – By the way, I use Arch Linux!
